SAN CLEMENTE, Calif. — Going shopping or grabbing a bite in San Clemente may soon benefit the city’s beaches if voters pass a measure on the ballot.
Measure BB proposes to increase the city’s sales tax a half-cent to help fund sand replenishment and other beach infrastructure projects. The current sales tax rate in San Clemente is 7.75%. If the measure passes, the city’s sales tax would increase to 8.25%.
Suzie Whitelaw, who has lived in the city for five years and is part of a group called “Save Our Beaches San Clemente,” shared with Spectrum News why she supports the measure.
Former City Councilmember Laura Ferguson, who has lived in the city for 15 years, shared why she's against the measure.
Measure BB requires 67% approval to pass.
