LOS ANGELES — A new California law went into effect this year that could open up thousands of acres of land for affordable housing.

The Affordable Housing on Faith Lands Act, also dubbed “Yes, In God’s Backyard” by lawmakers, streamlines the process of building housing for faith-based organizations and nonprofit colleges.

Here’s a look at how Westminster Presbyterian Church of Los Angeles is preparing to build affordable housing on its land and how the nonprofit organization LA Voice is helping this church and other religious organizations navigate the new law to build much-needed housing in LA County.
