SACRAMENTO, Calif. — Truck drivers rallied at the state capitol to support a bill that would guarantee a driver behind the wheel of any autonomous truck, over 10,000 pounds, for at least five years from deployment.

The bill passed through both houses with strong support.

One of Gov. Gavin Newsom’s senior advisers, Dee Dee Myers, wrote in strong opposition to the bill’s author, adjunct professor at the McGeorge School of Law Chris Micheli, said the bill has every chance to be vetoed — as AI is seen by the governor as a big part of the state’s future.
