Former President Donald Trump has been indicted by the special counsel for his efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election, culminating with the deadly riot at the capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The four-count criminal indictment is the third for the former president, but potentially the most perilous, as the justice department looks to hold him accountable for what they say is an unprecedented assault on the seat of American democracy.
