LOS ANGELES — The Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program that protects people brought to the U.S. as kids from deportation is once again facing uncertainty.
The 5th circuit court of appeals agreed with the lower court ruling that the Obama administration skipped important public input steps when setting up DACA and, therefore, it is illegal. But the court sent the case back to the lower court, where the case originated, to see if the new version of the DACA program issued by President Joe Biden over the summer means the program is now legal.
For now, no new applications are being accepted, and those that are already in the program can continue to benefit from it, as long as they maintain good standing.
