Although she felt it was "quite long," California 45th District Representative Katie Porter said she was "heartened by certain parts" of President Donald Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday.
"I thought it was great that he recognized the importance of economic opportunity and the contributions that women are making in the workforce," said Porter.
"I was heartened that he talked about the importance of paid family leave, that's an important issue to me as a single working mom of three kids."
But while Representative Porter offered praise for some aspects of the president's address, she was critical of other parts of it.
"There were other aspects of the speech however, that I thought were of concern or disappointing," said Porter.
"I was concerned about the discussion of the possible proliferation of nuclear weapons. I was concerned about some of the ways he continued to emphasize that the only view on effective border security is his view."
