LONG BEACH, Calif. — The Wrigley Greenbelt is open in Long Beach, after 30 years of stops-and-starts on the project.
Next to the lower Los Angeles River Trail, the trail is approximately 5,000 feet long and 6 feet wide and the trail bed is made of decomposed granite.
The trail was populated with 15,000 native shrubs, over 200 native trees, horse stables and horse trails.
But why did it take 30 years to complete?
Erik Lopez, the director of Public Works of Long Beach, said while the project was conceptualized in 1993, it took many years just to get the funding to get it off the ground.
