SAN DIEGO — Since President Joe Biden announced in late March that the U.S. would accept up to 100,000 Ukrainian refugees, people have been arriving at the U.S. and Mexico border.

Families from across Ukraine are hoping to find safety in the U.S. Some have a connection to the U.S., while others are arriving and hoping to connect with a host family here. Volunteers on both sides of the border have been working to streamline the process.

On Thursday, Biden announced that Ukrainian Refugees would no longer be able to enter the U.S. through Mexico. They’re being directed to apply for humanitarian parole directly from Europe under a new program called Uniting for Ukraine.
