EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Actor John Maucere discusses his silent comedy film titled “What?” alongside his interpreter, Jon Wolfe Nelson, for “Your Morning.”

Maucere, who is deaf, shares what it was like to work on a film created by a team made up of mostly deaf filmmakers and producers.

“What?” is a film about a deaf actor who is trying to make his way in Hollywood.

The character faces discrimination challenges while trying out for acting roles, but he is determined to change that.

Maucere said that the film’s purpose was to break barriers by showing the audience, deaf and hearing, that they can experience laughter and empathy simultaneously from a silent film.

The movie has been released theatrically and is also available on demand.
