CARSON, Calif. – Raul Vargas is packing up bags of uniforms to take up the 110 freeway on Thursday for the El Trafico playoff match between the two rival clubs.

Vargas is checking every detail, including a quick fix of the lettering of Jonathan dos Santos' jersey with the heat press.

"Hopefully he can score some more goals," said Vargas.

Vargas would love it if the Midfielder kept his scoring momentum going from the Galaxy's 2-1 victory over Minnesota in the first round. As the team's longtime equipment manager, Vargas has held the position since the club's inception in 1996. His love for every player over the past two decades is that of a father's.

"It's like when you have a bunch of kids, you have to treat them equal you know. Otherwise, you're in trouble," said Vargas.

One special memory that sticks out from one of his "kids" is from David Beckham. It was Beckham's final match with the Galaxy when the team won the MLS Cup in 2012 and a special hug was captured.

"One of the doctors took the picture, I didn't know until he gave it to me. It was a beautiful moment," said Vargas.

For Vargas each moment since 1996 has been beautiful and he has never missed a game. He showed off his ring collection, which has all five from each year the club won. It is a tangible reminder that he works with the most winningest franchise in league history.

Pilla: "You know it's only been two years since LAFC has been around?"

Vargas: "Who?"

Pilla: β€œYou know the team that hasn't been able to beat the Galaxy so far.”

All smack talk aside, Vargas respects the talent of Los Angeles FC.

"It's always nice to have good teams come into the league," said Vargas.

Despite Galaxy being the five-seed and LAFC the one, Vargas is hoping for another ring to add to his collection.

"Not hoping, we're going to get the sixth ring this year, that's for sure," said Vargas.

If confidence is key Vargas will be sharing that with the team one uniform at a time.
