SANTA MONICA, Calif. -- Coast 2019 is a free, one-day carnival spread across Santa Monica.

On Sunday, September 15, parts of Ocean Avenue, Colorado Esplanade, and Main Street will be closed to traffic starting at 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.

Artists hope to break— or at least soften— the dependence on cars.

“When the streets are clear of cars, especially as a parent, it just feels safer,” said Christine Suarez, a Coast 2019 participant and artist.
