It looks like plans are coming together for major upgrades to the home of the Binghamton Devils.

The Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena has not been updated much since being built 46 years ago. It's a three-phase plan estimated to cost at least $36 million.

The county has chosen its contractor for the project and it'll be finalized once the legislature votes. Everyone involved says the investment has been a long time coming.

"This was built in 1973, so you think what was going on in 1973 a lot of stuff has changed,” said Broome County Executive Jason Garnar. “With everything, whether it's what the fan experience is like with hockey, how we get different musical acts to come in here."

It's a plan that doesn't come to fruition for multiple years.

But, it's guaranteed to enhance the fan experience. "Complex menus and better food and beverages served throughout the building. Improving the team spaces from the locker room to the ice surface. More seating options, technology options, wifi, lighting." said General Manager of the arena, Chris Marion.

The public will be able to give their recommendations but we're waiting to find out when that'll happen.
