  • DTLA taco spot offers an Instagram-worthy experience
  • Restaurant's innovative dishes created in partnership with foodies
  • Success of Downtown location has led to a second location that's coming soon

Owner Leo Matias knew he had to stand out and knew he had to take advantage of the foodie culture. Beautiful pictures of food are all over the internet. From bloggers to foodie fanatics, everyone is posting.

Matias made the strategic decision to partner with local foodies.

"We collaborate on new menu items. At least once a month we roll one out. It really helped my business," said Matias.

This tactic helped his restaurant take off after almost having to shut its doors.

Matias risked it all.

He quit his long-time job and put all his money on the line. But after hard work and quick thinking, Matias, and Cilantro Lime, were back on their feet again.

"It was a blessing in disguise. I realized it was all on me and I was either going to fail, or I was going to succeed," he said.

He credits his family for always supporting his dream, and his mom for telling him to pursue it before it was too late.

Matias almost lost his mother to cancer, but she survived and is here today to help him on his journey.

"She is my best friend," said Matias.

All the recipes are hers, so he wants to honor his mother every single day.

"My mom is going to live forever with all of us because we will all be able to eat the recipes she created," Matias said.

From loaded fries, to cheese shell tacos, and new twists on classic favorites, Matias adds the Instagram flair to traditional recipes that keeps interested customers coming in.

Cilantro Lime is even expanding.

Matias will soon be opening a second restaurant in Glendale, which was something he never dreamed would happen.

"We will change the game one more time because now we can do seafood," he said.

Cilantro Lime 2.0 will open with new recipes and menu items in March. Stay tuned to the restaurant's social media for updates.
