EL SEGUNDO, Calif. — Legendary Democratic political strategist James Carville is profiled in the new documentary film, “Carville: Winning is Everything, Stupid.”

The film takes a deep dive into the life and legacy of the man who coined the term, “It’s the economy, stupid,” and examines the impact of Carville’s career in American politics.

Carville and Matt Tyrnauer, the film’s director, joined Amrit Singh on “Inside the Issues” to discuss the documentary and its famously outspoken subject.

“I think the film talked about how I believe in speaking in very concise and relevant terms,” Carville said. “I think that’s at the heart of any good messaging for anything that anybody does.”

“James redefined the art of political consulting,” Tyrnauer added. “That alone was enough of a reason to make a movie about James Carville.”

The film, which premieres on Oct. 25 in LA, is set against the backdrop of Carville’s early calls for President Joe Biden to exit the presidential race prior to July 2024.

Tyrnauer noted Carville had a profound impact on this year’s election.

“James ended up having a really powerful insight that suddenly transformed the race and you see that in the course of my film, because I was out there covering him on a daily basis while he was out there on this lonely campaign,” Tyrnauer said.

“I’d seen something that I thought was terribly distressing,” Carville said about Biden’s polling against former President Donald Trump. “I’d had the professional experience, I think, to be a little better than most seeing around corners and what I saw around the corner was grim.”

Finally, with two weeks until Election Day, Carville broke down the state of the presidential race between Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, stating the stakes of the election could not be higher.

“One person is promising to end the Constitution and the whole idea of the American Experiment, and the other one doesn’t want to do that,” Carville said. “I think we are in a dramatic moment, a precarious moment in American history the likes of which we’ve only seen in the Civil War, the Revolutionary War, something of this magnitude... and we only have two weeks to deal with it.”
