John Cox is a Republican developer, entrepreneur and attorney. He originally hails from Chicago but now lives in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. Cox previously ran for governor in 2018 and was endorsed by President Donald Trump at the time. 

The recall candidate has said he would force unhoused people to receive mental health or addiction treatment before providing housing, and has campaigned alongside a 1,000 lb. Kodiak bear named Tag.

“Inside the Issues” host Alex Cohen spoke to Cox back in March where he remarked on how he would have handled the pandemic differently.
