Alex Cohen sits down with Ashlee Marie Preston, a transgender activist, where she talks about her interaction with Ed Buck, a Democratic activist and political donor, at a retreat for the Stonewall Democratic Club in 2016.
Ed Buck is currently facing a wrongful death lawsuit in connection with the death of Gemmel Moore, who was found dead in Buck’s apartment from a methamphetamine overdose.
Preston, a former board member of the Stonewall Democratic Club, talks about the culture of exploiting black men as well as her own experience being raped and drugged by a wealthy political figure.
In speaking out for Gemmel Moore, she has been able to address her own trauma.
District Attorney Jackie Lacey has said that if Moore injected himself, Buck cannot be held responsible for the death.
"What we’re really talking about is murder rebranded. It’s the abuse of power and the exploitation of historically disenfranchised communities,” Preston said when asked about Buck’s responsibility in the death. "Ed Buck was known for offering people larger sums of money to, not only do meth, but to do meth via the way he wanted them to, which was intravenous."
