LOS ANGELES — Everytable has teamed up with the Los Angeles Department of Aging to provide free meal delivery services to any senior citizen over the age of 64 as part of a program that will run through the month of June.
Clare Fox, vice president of strategic partnerships with Everytable, said the Department of Aging collaborated with the company because food insecurity among seniors is their most pressing issue. The department also said that one in six seniors across the country experience food insecurity.
“All lot of senior adults live with a fixed income,” Fox said. “Add to that medications, then add to that the rising cost of rent in LA. All of that adds up to this scenario where you see a lot of older adults struggling with hunger, which is so difficult to think about. Our grandparents, our mentors, our teachers, having lived long and meaningful lives, not getting enough to eat. That’s really hard to think about.”
Any senior over 60 is eligible for the program as long as they can prove they are residents of LA.
To apply, call the LA Department of Aging at (213) 202-5669 or email seniormealprogram@lacity.org.
