RANCHO MISSION VIEJO, Calif. — When victims of war need help, distance becomes irrelevant.

Marta Kin is one of the handful of seniors from The Orchards Health Center in Rancho Mission Viejo helping assemble first aid kits for the people of Ukraine.

“I have been to Ukraine, they were very nice, very friendly, very honest and Ukraine never attacked anything,” she said.

Marta said she understands what Ukrainians are going through. She is from Poland, and she grew up during World War II.

“We survived first the Nazis, Hitler and my father was killed in this time and then [Poland] was occupied by the Russians,” she said.

As Russia continues to attack Ukraine, medical supplies become extremely valuable.

“These little things, although small, can make somebody be able to get glass out of a wound treat it with a little antibiotic that is in the kits,” says Susan McCord, a resident at The Orchards Health Center.

With over 100 first aid kits made, both women say their hope is for Ukrainians to feel support from across the world when the kits reach their hands.
