The Long Beach Airport is now offering unleaded aviation gas for the first time, in an effort to reduce lead pollution spewing from small planes.
The airport ranks No. 2 in the nation for lead pollution, according to the EPA, and across the U.S., small planes are the largest emitters of the lead. The new fuel offering, Swift UL94, is cleared for use in 65% to 70% of small piston-powered aircraft at LGB and already offered at other airports in the Southern California region, including Van Nuys Airport.
