LOS ANGELES — June is National Oceans Month, and Saturday is World Gin Day.

Local gin brand Gray Whale Gin helped ocean conservation group Oceana to ban swordfish drift gillnets.

Drift gillnets are large-mesh nets that are a mile long and they entangle, injure and kill thousands of ocean animals including gray whales.

Their campaign was a success and in December, President Joe Biden signed a law phasing out these fishing nets for good.
