LAGUNA NIGUEL, Calif. (CNS) — The South Coast Air Quality Management District has issued a smoke advisory Thursday because of a wildfire burning in Aliso and Wood Canyons Wilderness Park and nearby neighborhoods between Laguna Niguel and Laguna Beach called the Coastal Fire.

Winds are blowing plumes of smoke toward the south and east. Good to moderate air quality index levels were recorded in Mission Viejo, Aliso Viejo and Laguna Niguel by the SCAQMD at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. The air quality is not expected to degrade beyond the moderate level, according to the air quality agency, except in areas close to the fire, where unhealthy conditions could last for several hours.

Additional portions of south Orange County may also be affected by the Coastal Fire.

The agency recommends those who smell smoke or see ash to limit exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed or seeking alternate shelter and avoiding vigorous physical activity.
