LOS ANGELES — What is something you always wanted to do? Something that if you could go back and start from the beginning, you’d go all the way this time?

In Prime Video’s “Space Cadet,” Emma Roberts shoots for the stars … literally, as she works her way to become a NASA astronaut.

Roberts told Spectrum News she hopes “Space Cadet” will make viewers feel good and inspired.

“I hope they go and try something new or pick up something they have not picked up in a while. I feel we all have those hobbies or dreams we are going after and then it kind of just goes by the wayside because life happens. I just hope this puts some pep in someone’s step to revisit something they have always wanted to do,” she said.

Liz W. Garcia, who is the writer and director of the film and has always been interested in space, envisioned “Space Cadet” as a comedy with a touch of romance and a timely message about chasing your dreams. When she heard about NASA’s first class of astronauts that was made up of 50-50 males and females, she was hooked on the idea of looking into what it took for the candidates, particularly the women, to get considered becoming astronauts.

“It felt to me like it's a great world for a comedy because there are these extremely driven people … and then you know on top of that … I love this message of … just because you don’t look like someone who should be taken seriously doesn’t mean you shouldn’t be taken seriously,” said Garcia. “Taking someone like Rex, our heroine, and putting her in that world of very type-A people … I just started to fall in love with it.”

And because the film is about space, the cast shared with Spectrum News where in space they would like to visit.

Emma Roberts: “I just want to kick it on the moon and get a selfie with the moon.”

Poppy Liu: “With the infinite technology of the future … inside of a black hole! What happens in there? What is going on? What is the deal?”

Tom Hopper: “It would be cool to check out a different planet, wouldn’t it? I think that would be very cool. Maybe Mars because it is closer.”

“Space Cadet” is now streaming on Prime Video. It stars Emma Roberts, Tom Hopper, Poppy Liu, Sebastián Yatra and Gabrielle Union.
