LOS ANGELES — With a bomb under his car seat, Liam Neeson returns to the big screen in the action film, "Retribution," a film about family, greed, revenge, redemption and the choices we make and the consequences that can spring from them.

When a caller puts a bomb under his car seat, Matt Turner’s (Neeson) normal commute to take his kids to school becomes a twisted game of life and death. He will have to follow the stranger’s instructions in a race against time to save his family.

Nimród Antal, the film’s director, told Spectrum News in an interview he hopes people who watch “Retribution” have fun. He was drawn to the project because he would work with Neeson.

“A filmmaker is only as good as the people he or she is surrounded by. When you are working with someone of his caliber, a good cast, a good crew, it only elevates my game. I felt very fortunate to work with Liam,” said Antal.

Antal said that something folks might find interesting about Neeson is the fact that is he is very committed to his craft and his art.

“He is an incredible human being. He is a super sweet dude. He is still very passionate about his art,” he said.

As for his favorite scene in the film, Antal said it was the scene early in the film when Neeson’s character is in the car with his kids and gets the first call about the bomb. He told Spectrum News the 360 shot was difficult, but he enjoyed capturing the moment the bad guy is explaining the rules, but kids in the car are oblivious to what is happening.

Though the cast cannot take part in the film's promotion because of the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike, Antal did have a message for them.

“I would drop everything and work with all of them in a heartbeat. A really wonderful group of folks. I felt very fortunate that I could be there to play with them,” he said.

“Retribution” is playing in theaters. It stars Liam Neeson, Jack Champion, Lilly Aspell, Matthew Modine, Noma Dumezweni and Embeth Davidtz.
