The cast and director of Amazon’s new coming-of-age film "Anything's Possible" talk to Spectrum News 1 about LGBTQ representation and relationships.
- “Anything’s Possible” is a story, written by Ximena García Lecuona, that follows a trans girl who’s navigating her last year of high school, while her classmate gets the courage to ask her out. Their romance showcases the joy, tenderness and pain of young love.
- Emmy award-winning actor Billy Porter, best known for his iconic role in FX’s “Pose,” makes his film directorial debut with this film. He previously directed an off-Broadway play, “HAM: A Musical Memoir.”
- The film stars newcomers Eva Reign and Abubakr Ali as the leads, Kelsa and Khal. Reign previously wrote for Vice News, and she is a Peabody and GLAAD Media award recipient. “Hamilton” star Renee Elise Goldsberry also stars in the film as Kelsa’s mother.
- Reign talked to us about LBGTQ+ representation in Hollywood. “We can go back to even the documentary, 'Paris is Burning,' and we can look at the numerous films that were coming up in the '80s and the '90s,” she said. “They may or may not have been done with the most ethical of intentions, but since then, we’ve seen a major shift in film, television and lit.”
- After learning that the film was set in his hometown of Pittsburgh, Porter was sold on the film 30 pages into reading the script. “I didn’t have to make a choice,” he said. “The piece chose me, and that’s what has been so magical about the project.”
