He was born in Long Beach, his music captured the American spirit and Monday on Hollywood Boulevard, Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr., better known to the world as Snoop Dogg, was finally honored with his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
To be blunt, it was a smoke show at Snoop Dogg's Walk of Fame star dedication, where red carpets weren't the only thing being rolled.
Fans packed Hollywood Boulevard to watch as their idol received what many say has been a long time overdue.
"I can't believe this, we've come such a long way, let me tell you something, Snoop should've got this star just for making it out of the 90s," said rapper and music producer, Dr. Dre, who was one of the speakers at the dedication.
But maybe Snoop's star came at just the right time. After all, the widespread scenes of people celebrating the dedication by openly smoking cannabis along Hollywood Boulevard wouldn't have been legal prior to this year.
Chaz Green, a super fan with a tattoo of the rapper on his arm, drove two hours from Victorville to witness the dedication.
"He said 'I got 25 ways I can get it and 20 homeboys that's fully with it, it's only gonna take about 30 minutes from the effects that you'll feel from my bag of spinach,'" sang Green, quoting the rapper's hit "3's Company."
"I thought big dog already had a star down here you know what I'm saying. He made a big impact to the world," said "Compton Rick" Ross, who skipped class to be at the dedication and show his support.
Snoop Dogg is a SoCal native and although he has almost 20 Grammy nominations, his music is just part of the package.
"Basically some styles that I do, I got off of him, you know," said fan Vincent Torres. "Because Snoop had the freshest hair."
After years of being higher than the stars, Snoop Dogg now has one of his own on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, proving that every dog indeed has his day.
