LOS ALAMITOS, Calif. — Los Alamitos High School students have been learning lifesaving skills using an ambulance simulator, which looks just like an ambulance without wheels.
The simulator, provided by the North Orange County Regional Occupational Program, is part of the Emergency Response Pathway that is built into the school day for kids who take part in the Career Technical Education program.
The ambulance simulator is equipped with interactive mannequins capable of simulating vital signs, including pulses, blood pressures, respiratory sounds, and simulated EKGs.
It gives students like senior Lucas D’Onofrio, who wants to become a firefighter, the opportunity to experience real-life scenarios in a controlled or classroom environment.
A similar program is also offered at La Habra High School.
