LOS ANGELES — A new initiative launched by Trust for Public Land, called 28x28, will transform 28 asphalt playgrounds into vibrant green schoolyards within communities across Los Angeles that lack access to parks and open green spaces in time for the 2028 summer Olympics in Los Angeles. 

The Trust for Public Land LA Program Director Robin Mark says this initiative is crucial, pointing to research that shows when children have access to green space and nature, their stress levels go down, their sleep improves and their ability to retain information increases. 

“Their test scores go up. They’re just mentally and physically healthier,” she explains. “What we’re doing here today is one schoolyard, but for generations, this campus will now provide students with an opportunity to really excel, both academically but also physically and mentally.”
