LOS ANGELES — The film “Patch Adams” starring the late Robin Williams showcased the power of laughter in easing pain for hospital patients.

At the USC School of Dramatic Arts, students can get a taste of that experience through its medical clowning program, the first of its kind in the country for undergraduates.
