LOS ANGELES — As nearly 400,000 students gear up to return to Los Angeles Unified School District schools, the district is unveiling significant new investments to support them.

According to the California School Dashboard, 85% of LAUSD students are considered socioeconomically disadvantaged and more than 5,000 are homeless.

Antoinnyca Daniels is a single mother of two, 9-year-old Aiden and 4-year-old Amore. They’ve moved several times over the last few years, from an outdoor shed to a car, then into a shelter for women and children.

Now, they’ve finally moved into permanent housing.
