LOS ANGELES — In Los Angeles County, the car wash industry employs about 10,000 workers across 500 car wash businesses, according to the nonprofit CLEAN Carwash Worker Center.

However, the industry is rife with wage theft and poor working conditions.

These issues motivated several longtime “carwasheros” to launch their own worker-led co-op car wash that provides fair wages and better working conditions.
