LOS ANGELES — March is International Women's Month, and a group of UCLA students, staff and local professionals are paying homage to the past.
The group will be performing Francesca Caccini's opera, "A Liberation of Rigero From the Island of Alcina," on Sunday at the Clark Library in the West Adams area.
Caccini is the first woman to ever compose an opera, doing so in 1625. Now, 400 years later, the performance features a female director, assistant director and lead performers who are predominantly women.
