LOS ANGELES — A new exhibition called “Shifting Perspectives: Vertical Cinema” recently debuted at the Academy Museum of Motion Pictures honoring the history of vertical cinema and exploring storytelling in a different format.

The exhibition features 25 vertical short films that date back to the 1890s and also include films from local students at the Ghetto Film School. For the first time, the museum also commissioned films from three filmmakers, including Zaina Bseiso, Fox Maxy and Walter Thompson-Hernández, specifically for this exhibition.

“Shifting Perspectives: Vertical Cinema” will be open to the public until Aug. 4, 2024.
