SHERMAN OAKS, Calif. — At just 7 years old, CJ Williams has basketballs skills beyond his years. Over the last year he’s been teaching other kids how to play the game.

“It’s fun to help kids if they want to play basketball,” CJ said.

He has been recording social media instructional videos for the Clippers Youth Basketball program. The videos were created because the team couldn’t hold its junior youth camps during the pandemic.

“If I couldn’t play with other kids, I could still practice,” CJ said.

He first connected with the Clippers through his father’s Dare 2 Dream youth foundation. He got a chance to meet Patrick Beverly and even appeared in a commercial with him

“I catch the ball from Patrick Beverly and then I was so happy,” explained CJ.

The bright lights are nothing new this kid. At 3 years old, he showed off his game in the national spotlight with Steve Harvey on “Little Big Shots.” Williams was born into a basketball family. His dad, Harold “Lefty” Williams, is a former Harlem Globetrotter who was glad to pass the game down to the next generation.

“I’m a proud dad,” Harold said. “His coaching – you can clearly see that he understands the game at a high level. He’s explaining it to you. He’s very articulate. He’s 7 going on 30.”

The "7 going on 30" Clippers youth coach thinks the team will finally get over the hump this year.

“I think they’re gonna make it to the Championship,” CJ said.

Time will tell if his prediction will come true, but in the meantime, he’ll look to teach the next generations of champions.
