LOS ANGELES, Calif. — City council members are one step closer to bringing major ethics reform to LA City Hall following a leaked audio recording that sent shockwaves through the city — not only because council members were heard making racist remarks — but also because of a discussion on how to redraw district borders to gain power and influence.
More than a year later, the Los Angeles City Council approved City Council President Paul Krekorian's effort to introduce an independent redistricting committee to LA's city charter.
It will be on the November 2024 ballot for Los Angeles voters.
The committee would cut council members out of the district redrawing process to make it fair for voters.
The next redistricting process won't begin until 2031.
