BURBANK, Calif. – Hassan Khaffaf recently spent 24 hours enclosed in a box, all while being filmed and streamed online to promote his new music.

The recording artist and producer let fans into his creative process.

“A human experiment, like human behavior, and showing how creatives lock ourselves in rooms. We sacrifice our sleeping patterns, our eating patterns, just to work on this art,” said Hassan.

It’s all happening inside of Dame Dash Studios in Burbank. It was started by Damon Dash himself, legendary hip-hop executive, fashion mogul, and entrepreneur.

Now at this new workspace, he is giving opportunities to the next generation, and artists like Hassan.

“If somebody is going to show up, then I’ll show up and he’s been consistent. He tries to do things different so I embrace that at all times. But also, because Hassan can take constructive criticism,” Dash said.

In many ways Dash has become a mentor to Hassan, as the up-and-comer sits in on mixing sessions and figuring out what’s next for Hassan as an artist.

“I love him,” Hassan said. “Dame was the first one to show people that anything is possible. I really can do a movie, did Paid In Full, really do a clothing line, and do Rocawear, do Rocafella, and just have that imprint on culture. He’s meant everything to me as an artist. He’s empowered me.”

As for Dash, he wants this space and this new chapter of mentorship to be part of his legacy.

“Just me the person that clears the way, knocks down the doors, fights everybody fearlessly on his own so that everyone else can live better. So if that’s my purpose in this universe, so be it, I’m with it,” said Dash.

Hassan is thankful Dash is giving him the opportunity to think outside the box, as he strives to share his artistry as musician to the world.
