But just because recreational marijuana is now legal in Califormnia, does that make it okay to light up in public? The Beat on 1's Alex Cohen lays down the law and clarifies the specifics on California's new liberalized pot laws.

"While it's true that you can now cook at home with marijuana here in California, what they were doing on the street, assuming that wasn't in fact bags of spinach . . . not legal. So recreational marijuana, yes, it's legal now in California, but you can't smoke it outside in public. You're not even supposed to eat it outside in public. You can't do it in your car. There's still certain boundaries," says Cohen, as she explains the nuances of the law to Lisa McRee, Melvin Robert and Giselle Fernandez.
