The US – Canada border has been closed for one year as of Sunday. And it will not reopen to non-essential travelers until at least late April.

Congressman Brian Higgins says that there is hope that soon you’ll be able to hop on the Peace Bridge to go shop, grab a bite to eat, or catch up with old friends in Canada.

Higgins says that with more people getting the vaccine and the number of COVID-19 cases dropping, he is pushing for the border to reopen by July.

He says it goes along with President Joe Biden’s goal of getting things closer to normal by July 4.

Higgins supports a phased reopening; saying the blanket ban of non-essential travel through April 21 should be the last of its kind.
