DOWNTOWN LOS ANGELES - Going to the movies is a treat for many, especially eight-year-old Yaya who cannot wait to see the new Spiderman movie.
“Today was hot and I wanted to be inside in the air conditioning,” said Yaya.
She says she would rather see a movie in the theater than at home because it’s a better experience.
“It’s fun here, its big,” said Yaya.
She is currently at the Regal Cinemas L.A. Live, which offers a first-of-its-kind immersive experiences. The theater was the first to offer 4DX, which is a sensory experience. The chairs move, smells fill the air, and sound is enhanced.
This is something Senior VP of Marketing for L.A. Live, Shelby Russell is excited to have.
“Being in the heart of Los Angeles and the movie industry, we have to make sure we always have the best technology,” said Russell.
The next big venture is the Immersive Cinema Experience. The Regal will be the first theater in the United States to have this technology.
Launched two-and-a-half years ago in France, it's already featured major movies in about 30 theaters. Now in the U.S., it will change the way we watch movies and hopefully, bring more people into the theater.
“We want to be innovative in a way that gives movie-goers a reason to come to our theater and see the film in a very unique way,” says Russell.
The Immersive Cinema Experience has LED screens on the sides of the theater that enhance the movie showing on the front screen. The lights will also change along with the mood of the movie.
“You will be immersed in the movie in a way that doesn’t take away from the film itself,” said Russell.
Yaya loves 3D and says she would love to be in the new immersive theater.
“When it’s 3D, it’s big and it feels like I’m in the movie too,” said Yaya.
The new Immersive Cinema Experience will be unveiled at the L.A. Live Regal Cinema in mid-fall.
