LOS ANGELES, CA – The Sierra Canyon Boys’ Basketball team is quite possibly the high school equivalent of the dream team. Loaded with talent and sons of former professional athletes - three of them sons to former NBA players.

“They played at the highest level, especially like Scottie and Kenyon, they’re legends in the league. They’re on the sidelines sometimes in crucial moments of the game. They’ll say little stuff about how we should play defense or how we should be defending somebody. I mean it’s really helpful,” says junior forward Terren Frank.

One of the student athletes is junior Terren Frank, at 6-feet-7-inches tall he is hardly a “small” forward. Frank is the son of Tellis Frank, who played for the Heat, Warriors and Timberwolves.

Frank is back as part of the Trailblazer’s starting lineup, but earlier in the season his status wasn’t so certain. He suffered a meniscus injury after a game against Hollywood, and with over 10 college scholarship offers, he had a decision to make.

Faced with a difficult choice, Frank could either rehab all of December and January to come back for his team in their title quest, or play it safe and keep himself out of the starting line-up. He says it was no choice at all.

“I wanted to come back and play with my team because it’s the last time I’m going to play with my guys. All seniors. Next year it’s going to be a whole different team. I’m never going to play with them ever again in competitive games so I was willing to come back and play with them, do something special and go back-to-back,” says Frank.

That is exactly what Sierra Canyon is trying to do after beating Mater Dei in Tuesday’s SoCal Open Divisional Final. Last year’s state championship team was a surprise to some, but this year they came in as the favorites; going from the hunters to the hunted.

“Any time you have the opportunity to play for a championship it’s a wonderful thing. And so I’m excited, my players are excited, so we’ll see what happens,” says Head Coach Andre Chevalier.

While their names may sound familiar, make no mistake they are trying to blaze their own trail.
