LOS ANGELES, CA – A YMCA program is working to spread kindness, and a helping hand.

  • Formerly homeless woman now giving back

“We’re delivering a couch today to a woman who was homeless,” Ian Stevenson said.

Stevenson is a chaplain for the YMCA of Orange County. He works to help people who need it through the YMCA ‘Cares’ program.

“The need in our world isn’t is there enough stuff, it’s all about distribution,” Stevenson said. “Asking questions and figure out how you can connect the dots and meet the needs.”

The Y started a program to spread kindness; with men like Stevenson paving the way. On any normal day, Stevenson will work out at the Y, and then lead a prayer group, always asking people “what do you want to pray for?”

Right now he is praying for Jackie Davis, who just got off the streets. Despite needing help herself, Davis now helps other people by feeding the homeless on weekends.

“I want to help as many people as I can,” Davis said.

Now on weekdays, Davis will be enjoying her couch.

“It’s comfortable. It’s very soft,” David said.  “Ian’s always been there for us.”

Stevenson believes that if everyone helped out on some level, the world would be a different place.
