Marvin Cohn hasn't spoken a word to Bernie Madoff since first investing with him 35 years ago.

“I can’t say that out loud, what I would say to him. I would swear at him,” Cohn said.

Cohn lives a quiet life in Rancho Mirage painting portraits. He says he doesn’t think about Madoff taking his money much anymore, but when he does, even at the age of 106, he can remember the agonizing details. Starting with realizing he was taken, but feeling hope because he had insurance.

“But turns out we never got paid from the insurance, so I lost everything,” he said.

Cohn and his wife Rosie lost their entire retirement savings - half a million dollars.

“I don’t think any of his investors knew him, maybe some of them did,” he said.

Cohn made his money by running a successful women’s hosiery business that supplied to major stores. His friend Eddie, a CPA who Madoff also swindled, gave him a tip about how to invest that money.

“Because he trusted him and I believed Eddie. He was a good friend for many years. He was well off, so I invested my money,” Cohn said.

After investing for about 25 years, he learned that he was one of the tens of thousands investors who lost big by investing with Madoff. Now, his daughter and son-in-law take care of him.

“I still had $40,000 I had not invested. I use that and Barbara and Jerry take care of me,” he said.

But that wasn’t his plan, and that’s not what he worked hard his whole life for.

“They’re happy to do it, but I’m not happy they’re doing it. But I couldn’t be living without it,” he said. “I have accepted it. Do I have resentment, of course."
