A new brushfire broke out in the early hours of the morning on Thursday. The blaze, which is being called the Briggs fire, started early in the morning on South Mountain, between Saticoy and Santa Paula. The initial blaze was reported to over an area of 12 acres. 

The latest reports from the Ventura County Fire Department indicate, the fire area had grown to between 75 and 100 acres. It's being called a "terrain and fuel driven fire" that's being spread by light winds from the east.

The area is largely uninhabited and according to current reports, no structures have been damaged or are currently under threat. Fire crews from Ventura County Copter 6 and Santa Barbara County Copter 308 are combating the blaze with water drops and air tankers are on order. 

No injuries have been reported among the firefighters battling the blaze.

As of late Thursday afternoon, the Briggs fire was over 90 percent contained.
