Alex Cohen sits down with Los Angeles first lady Amy Wakeland at historic Getty house, the mayor's residence, in Mid-City. The two discuss how Wakeland manages to keep a low profile as her husband governs the city, her work to preserve the environment, and her efforts to help children in the foster care system.

Wakeland and Mayor Eric Garcetti have a daughter, Maya, who they adopted during the mayoral race. In the above clip, she counters Alex’s observation that Garcetti is extroverted by saying he is actually shy.

"He has a shy side, where he would like for me or his daughter, whatnot, to be at certain events so that he can see that we’re in the room supporting the work that he does," Wakeland explains. "He definitely does have a little bit of a shy side."

Wakeland and Garcetti met when both were Rhodes Scholars taking a red-eye flight to England to begin graduate studies at Oxford University.
