T’was three weeks before Christmas and all down the block
These neighbors strung lights so that children could gawk
High up on the ladder was Don, and old soul
Who strung lights on the tree with his long, custom pole
Candy Cane Lane welcomes Santa every year
And hundreds of families seeking this season’s cheer
It’s a tradition that dates back to the Second World War
On opening night, St. Nick alights the decor
Before the big night, there are bulbs to replace
And wires to check – stand back – just in case!
For 32 years Scott has built this tradition
In fact, this tree has its own power transmission
The crowds donate money to help pay the bills
And the city steps up to control the crowd’s ills
But there’s a cost to it all that money can’t measure
When neighbors compete to keep up with peer pressure
On this street – holiday magic is real
Santa? He’s not a hoax
The legends alive thanks to neighborly love
And…dad jokes.
Candy Cane Lane is located at 1200 E Acacia St. El Segundo, CA 90245. Santa will alight the street Saturday, Dec. 14 at approximately 7 p.m.
