FOUNTAIN VALLEY, Calif. — According to the National Library of Medicine, Asian Americans are the only racial group in the U.S. for whom cancer is the leading cause of death in men and women, unlike heart disease for all other groups.

Data also shows the same group is least likely to be screened for cancer compared to other races.

Since 1998, the Vietnamese American Cancer Foundation or Vital Access Care Foundation, has been helping cancer patients by providing emotional support services, helping with basic needs, connecting them with services, among other things.

At the same time, the organization has been working to tackle what they say is shame and stigma attached to a cancer diagnosis among some in the Vietnamese immigrant community.

June is National Cancer Survivor Month.
