Ana Morin does dialysis every day with her husband Danny never far away – kinda like they’re one in the same.

“I always say we can’t get any closer now,” Ana said,

Danny has been changing the dialysis bags every night for four years, ever since Ana got the earth-shattering diagnosis that she has stage four chronic kidney disease.

“It inspired my husband to go out there and try to get tested to see if he was a match,” she said.

It turns out, he was a perfect match.

“Soon as I got that call, and they’re like ‘Danny you’re a match,’ I didn’t have to think about it, I’m like, ‘I’m doing this,'" Danny said.

But it wasn’t that easy. Danny had to clean up his lifestyle and stop drinking and smoking to make his kidney eligible for donation.

And so the campaign, "2 Kidneys One Heart" was born, linking together people with a shared blood type.

This past January, he was approved, and a surgery date was set for November.

Then five weeks ago the unthinkable happened - their doctor broke the news that a 25 year old who matches Ana's blood type was eligible to give her his kidney - and even more miraculously, the young man's relative is a match for Danny. The Morin’s had a choice - they could stick to their plan or they could swap. To them, it was an easy decision.

“My wife will be receiving a nine years younger kidney. Second reason, we’re able to help another family in need,” Danny said.

When asked to think about what surgery day will be like, his voice quivers. But then he finds the words, “A conclusion to this story, but the beginning to a new start.”
