The Los Angeles City Council recognized the launch of Spectrum News 1 during Wednesday’s council meeting in downtown L.A.

Representatives from the newly launched station attended the event, including Spectrum Networks Vice President of News and Content, Cater Lee.

“I’m so proud to be working for a company that is devoted to investing in local journalism, impactful stories and original programming focused on our neighborhoods and our communities,” Lee said. “We have a team of multimedia journalists that are embedded in the rich neighborhoods they cover. Covering issues like local politics, affordable housing, the environment, education, and the issues that matter to Angelenos.”

City Council President Herb Wesson proclaimed Wednesday, November 21 “Spectrum News 1 Day,” and presented Lee with a city council proclamation.

“They’re going to be covering things that happen in Sacramento and Washington and literally the things that happen on Main Street right here in city hall,” Wesson said. “They’re very excited about this new launch, and they’re very excited about connecting with residents of our great city.”

Councilmember Monica Rodriguez said the launch of the news station will be an important new way for residents get news about what’s happening around Los Angeles.

“They are going to help tell the other parts of the stories that too often get over looked,” Rodriguez said.

The station launched earlier this month and covers communities across Southern California.
