Described by Cornel West as an artist who “speaks his truth with a power we desperately need to hear,” University of California Los Angeles professor and author Bryonn Bain is at the forefront of arts activism and justice reform.  

After teaching the first hip-hop and spoken word workshop in the Dramatic Arts at Harvard University, Bain began consulting Columbia University’s Center for Justice and School of Law as a Visiting Scholar, and founded the prison education program offering college degrees from NYU to men incarcerated in upstate New York.  

He currently co-supervises the UCLA International Human Rights Law Clinic, and serves as faculty adviser for the Justice Work Group. His work is not only transforming the lives of students, but it is also helping many incarcerated people find redemption through creative expression.

Bain joined “Your Morning” to discuss his ongoing work, UCLA's Prison Education program, and his forthcoming book 'Rebel Speak.'
