MALIBU, Calif. — When it comes to fire season, it’s no longer a question of if, but when. And when the next wildfire strikes, The Malibu West Fire Brigade will be ready.

It’s an all-volunteer group of 30 members, trained to help fight fires shoulder-to-shoulder with their neighbors in the event of a wildfire, especially if firefighters can’t reach them.

The Brigade sprung into action during the Woolsey Fire, saving dozens of homes in west Malibu and learning valuable lessons for upcoming fire seasons.
