MALIBU, Calif. (CNS) — Firefighters Friday battled a brush fire that scorched more than an acre along a stretch of Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu.

The acre-and-a-half fire in the 18900 block of PCH, near Tuna Canyon Road, was reported shortly after 5 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The fire prompted the closure of PCH in both directions at Tuna Canyon Road, along with a stretch of Tuna Canyon Road north of PCH.

Shortly before 8 a.m., southbound PCH was reopened, and about 45 minutes afterward, the remaining roadways in the area were reopened, according to the sheriff's department and the California Highway Patrol.

The flames were confronted from the ground and the air, and after about an hour, the fire department reported that the fire's forward progress was stopped. No structures were damaged.

Late Friday morning, the fire department reported that a man was taken into custody by the sheriff's department "in conjunction with this early morning, non-injury brush fire." It was unclear what the man was going to be booked for.

Fire crews remained on scene for several hours mopping up. The cause of the fire was under investigation.
